Another Win For Convoy
We added another win to the Winter season of soccer for Halifax Convoy. We played a team called GenieKnows.com (formerly called Thirsty Duck). They are a masters team, so they are a little older on average but you can't let age blind you, they were pretty fancy with their footwork. Very close game that was 1-1 in the first 15 minutes and it stayed that way until we got 2 goals in the last 2 minutes. So a 3-1 win for us, spirits were high in the locker room. I blew a perfect pass from a teamate and I rocketed it way above the net. Thing is though, I wasn't that far from the net and it only needed a light tap, all I can say is "oops". Anyway, If you made it this
far into a boring soccer post then you might be glad to know there is a long break until the next game on Dec 17th, so no soccer posts until then. Picture here is not us playing but it is the indoor facility we play at in Lacewood. It is a lot smaller then the summer fields but it's a quicker game, gets the ticker and the lungs working hard.
We are 1 win, 2 losses, 13 games to go
Again, not a pic of one of our players but you get the picture where I am going with this. We lost our last two games but not by much, one was 2-1 and the other was 3-0, both games could have went either way. The guys we played tonight are sponsored by Rogue's Roost and they are "Cocky" (PUN intended). I think they thought we would be an easy win and they were a little surprised at 1-0 at half time. These guys have already played 6 games and have scored 23 goals, 3 against us but we held them off for a while at the 1-0. No doubt we have improved but there is always room for a little more improvement.
The kids are always in bed when I get home from the winter games but I check on them and they usually ask me how they game went if they can regain just a little bit of consciousness. I usually tell them I got a goal and Avery got a goal, it makes them smile and if I think real hard in what is possible I almost believe it myself. Yes, it is a little "white lie" to my kids to make them think more of me because the couple times I did get goals they wouldn't wake up so I have to bank them. Next Game is this Sunday at 9PM against the Landsharks, Go Halifax Convoy!
Great Way To Start The Winter Soccer Season
The picture is not one of our players but I didn't bring the camera to our first Winter game so I did a quick google image search for an appropriate picture. We (Halifax Convoy) kicked off the Winter season with a win over Garrison. It was a well played game by both sides but we prevailed with a score of 2-0. We have good team this Winter and I am sure this will not be my last post with a win. Hopefully 16 posts with wins as that is the # of games to get through. After our victory and shaking hands with the opponents I heard one of them say we were a bunch of assholes. Now that is is not being a good sport, we beat them fair and square, but there is always going to be a few "whiners" in soccer, that's just the way it is. Our team always has taken our losses as "room for improvement" but then again we have a bunch of level headed players that don't take things too seriously. At 1-0 they got desperate and tried to convince the Ref that there was a hand ball in the penalty box but it wasn't and the Ref wasn't giving in to the "whining". Our second goal in the closing minutes "sealed the deal" for our win as they were putting the pressure on to tie up the game. Next game is versus the Blue Devils (HRM Police team) on November 11th, I hope to post another victory but we'll have to wait and see.
